Every year I make an effort to do something to try and improve and further my photography either through a training course or workshop. This year however I decided to do something a little different by arranging a bridal shoot at one of my favourite wedding venues, Mitton Hall near Clitheroe. Although training courses and workshops are great for learning from other photographers, the images from them aren’t fully representative of a real wedding as you end up photographing young, gorgeous, size 8 models. I wanted to photograph a real couple that weren’t practised in the art of posing and smiling for the camera. Luckily Lorna and her fiancé Michael volunteered their time for the day as Lorna loved the idea of trying on a selection of wedding dresses and practicing for when her real wedding day eventually comes round. A few weeks before the photoshoot, Lorna and Michael visited Amelia’s Bridal Boutique in Clitheroe to find the perfect wedding dress and groom’s suit and get fitted for size. In the mean time I managed to get Victoria from Kersey Hairdressing in Grimsargh lined up to do the hair and make-up for Lorna. Victoria specialises in doing hairdressing for weddings so she was delighted to get involved. We were also lucky enough to get a bouquet of flowers provided by Elaine at Forrester Flowers of Carlisle to complete the look of a real wedding.
On the day of the photoshoot, Mitton Hall were kind enough to provide an actual wedding set-up in their beautiful orangery where they regularly host their wedding ceremonies and receptions so Victoria used the fantastic light in there while she worked her magic on Lorna’s hair and make-up. Once Lorna was ready and looking ready to be married we used many of the fantastic spaces that Mitton Hall has to offer to capture some beautiful images. I may have specifically avoided using beautiful models but it turns out that’s what I got from Lorna and Michael. They both looked amazing and were naturals in front of the camera so it helped making it such a fun and relaxed afternoon which is exactly how I like a real wedding day to be.
To end the photoshoot, Lorna brought out the real love of her life, her pride and joy, her red Lotus Elise Convertible Type 49 which would make an ideal wedding car for any real bride and groom.
